Heya,

I have been drifting and getting the hang of it now.I'm really enjoing it now.I need help because i am going out of the line while drifting.

I am drifting now in a "U" shape position..When i enter the turn I get it right on line but when I reach the end of it i go way out of the line.I would like to know if i should give it more throttle or give it lesser throttle??

Please help me guys ! ! ! neutral

Regards,

Lucas

Hi,
I would start by trying to drift in a cicrles around a can or something, if you can drfit circle after circle around a can without coming out of the drfit or clipping the can then try doing figure of 8's around two cans. When you can do that you can move on to drifting a U by which I am guessing you mean a straight before and after a sharp bend.

I am coming out as a secret drifter here, I havent done it in a long time, but when I arrived in Dubai 5 or 6 years ago I bought an early Yokomo Drift Package, still got it but got fed up with the car unbolting itself all the time.

As for the power if you see the other guys drifting or even have a look at videos on you tube you will hear them constantly blipping the throttle/power basically the car is constantly balanced between spinning out or gripping up and exiting the drift, blipping the throttle is an easy way of finding the balance.

So trying listening to a video on you tube and you will hear peoples throttle triggers click, click, clicking, try blipping your throttle through a drfit with a similar rythm and you should find you start to get a feel for how to balance the car in a drift. You will quickly get smoother and less on/off with the throttle but this is a good way to learn how to keep a car in an 'over power' drfit.

Lots of newer cars will have one way differentails in them and they might need a completley different technique, but my old yokomo and your TL01 dont so try my suggestion for now.

If your still reading, thanks for your patience, if what I have suggested doesn't work for you, save yourself some time and watch this -

Hi Lucas,

After hitting the "Apex" or in-point of the turn, and running off the track, what you should do is turn into the corner (being the inner part of the "U" ) and give it full throttle to stay on track, if you are still going off then try the old technique of "slow in and fast out"

Lucas, getting the lines right is something that takes a while.

I'd suggest making a figure "8". And to never use full throttle. Keep tapping it, from 0 to 75%. Keep the rest of the 25% for when the person chasing you is about to overtake you wink

It's not that easy to explain how to control throttle and steering in words... But anyway...In your case, I would use the scandinavian flick. As you approach the turn, I'd turn the opposite direction for a split direction, and let go off the gas, then I'd turn into the turn and start tapping the gas, and drift through the turn... When you turn into the wrong direction before turning into the turn, you throw the weight of the car forwards, reducing the grip in the rear, allowing it to be tail happy. Then by countersteering back into the turn and with the use of throttle tapping, you can guide the car through the turn...
The scandinavian flick is hard to master, but well worth it!

But here is what's not that hard to explain...

Throttle tapping helps to keep it going sideways.

Most of the time, more throttle is used to force the car into the apex of the turn.

Countersteering is used to change the angle.

Throttle control is something you learn through experience. You need to be able to feel the car when you drift... To understand it.

...In short, keep practicing. I've been drifting for around 4 months now. I'm still getting the hang of it.
