PostNew Tamiya Releases - Upcoming Shizuouka Show

Scheduled to be released in July 2010. It will share parts with the TA05, and will be a high end drift chassis.

Price is a little too steep though, convert it from Yen to USD and see the $500-550 badge yourself.

Here is some more information...

It's a 3Racing Ta05. =P
Plus I'll be switching to HB once I get enough funds.

How can 'common sense' come second when making a decision?

Well, what do you consider when coming with a decision?

Like comparing HB's TC-D with Tamiya's VDF and choosing the TC-D over the VDF.

Price? Looks?

If price, you prefer a "cheaper" (but definitely not less in performance) kit.

If looks, you prefer how the TC-D 'looks' over Tamiya's VDF.

Anyway, if there is anybody that can decide for you, it's yourself only.
These are all just opinions in an open discussion thread and I think we are all open-minded people here.

It's still your choice whether to take your VDF or TC-D off roading or Touring.
Or your M-Chassis rock crawling.
It's yours anyway.

Lastly, don't argue!

I'm not arguing. I am, on the other hand, ranting about the VDF.
But I'm just pointing out the obvious.
=/

"Cheap" isn't the word.
Why would you settle for less?
Or a better question would be.
Wouldn't you want to have the best value for your money?

VDF vs TC-D
Performance-wise....i don't have an answer.
But the price of the VDF is just absurd. It isn't a 'complete' package.

It would be nice to ask Tamiya what exact are we paying for with that price tag.
Their name?

Lastly guys, please stop stereo-typing what me and Abdul comment on.
They're just opinions.
Of course it's still your decision whether you like it or not.
I am just introducing another side of the story.
Again, I am not arguing. I am being open-minded.

You guys should be too.

To add some fuel to the fire......

Tamiya Mini's, in a stock form have WAY too much ground clearance for track duty. One of the first mods (this should make satruday interesting for those that have not yet done it) is to get the ride height lower by adding spacers/orings into the shocks to reduce clearance. When you max out a mini's ride height, like using longer mounts at the end of the shock mounts, and add some rally block tires, they have plenty ground clearance. The thing that will let yuo down more is the fact that it is 2WD, and even more so, RWD and limited power.

Josh, as I have mentioned before, Tamiya are VERY shrewd, just have a look at the re-release Sand Scorcher.......can any other vendor say they have released a 30 year old model as a result of simple DEMAND? Apart from a few selected vendors, very few have had consistent success, year on year, with at least ONE model per season attaining LEGENDARY status. Examples TA03 - was a breakthrough then in Pro format and is legendary today in drifting. M03 - 15 years old, still in production (dont need to say more). TA05 - almost 4 years in production, so far). Scorcher and Rough Rider - already discussed. FF01 - started a touring craze, others followed.

They know EXACTLY what they are doing. With regards to batteries, Lipo burns in water, so no good for all the buggies that kids like nothing better than submerging their toys in off-road puddles....As a side note, in a 5 min race, I would put a Tamiya Nimh (conditioned) against any 'cheap' lipo.....any day.

Like em or love, they aint going away, ......voting with the wallet is your only way of protest, but like us, you are entitled your opinion clapping

Now there's an opinion. Thanks sir Andy.
That cooled me down.
=)

What I was referring to when I was talking about the batteries, was the design of the VDF.
It's a drift kit, and most chances are, it won't be submerged in water.
Plus (from what I've seen here in the Philippines) most on-road kits use li-po batteries.
The weight difference between Nimhs and Lipos will greatly alter the performance of the kit.
Then, there's the issue of the battery mount, which will not support bullet-type (Banana plug) li-pos.

The VDF is a 'semi-pro' kit with the price tag of a pro kit.
It's not about voting with the wallet, or the ATM card, or even the credit card for the matter.
It's about voting on the overall value of the kit.

If the kit will make a newbie a DK (drift king) with no hands, then I'll certainly give it my vote.

The quote "You get want you pay for" does not apply to the VDF's tag price.
And that is a major 'con'.

And more fuel to the fire - I can't wait for the M05RA, I ran my M03 with raised suspension on an dusty interlock course with a 13T brushless motor and It was some of the best fun I have had. An overpowered M03 on dusty interlock is the new slash, the new mayhem and the new crystal meth all rolled into one.

With that said, let us conclude that the ride height of the m-chassis is adjustable.
thumbs_up

But the VDF still doesn't get my vote.
Good luck to the die-hard Tamiya fans.
