PostLow Quality Posts

Although the use of forum ranks can encourage interaction and an increased number of posts as users strive to reach the higher ranks, we need to consider the value these posts will hold.

I feel that the idea of standardised forum rank titles can be flawed in many of the same ways that forum competitions are a bad idea. We are basically encouraging post counts rather than post quality – this can be a mistake.

Many users will want to attain the prestige associated with the higher forum rank titles. Consequently they may end up posting comments with just smileys or ‘lols’ – such useless content can damage the quality of our community, but still reward the poster with an extra notch on their post count.

By customising forum rank titles, we will still be engaging with the members and personalising our community. By doing this manually, we will avoid the potential for low quality posts as users will know they are recognised and rewarded based on their overall contribution to the community rather than their post count.

Those with the highest post counts are not necessarily the most valuable members of our community. The ones we should value the most are the ones that add the highest amount of value.

Custom forum ranks reward the users that we feel deserve to be rewarded. When other members see the potential for being awarded a rank title for their contributions, we will often see them strive to achieve similar recognition.

If our community members know they are likely to be rewarded for specific contributions (such as most welcoming member, most helpful member, etc) others will follow these traits, benefiting our entire community.

We seem to have a bad habit of going off topic most of the time in thread.
If we used to do this before, I believe we should strive together to remove that bad habit.

Like Sir Jay mentioned; it's not about the quantity, but rather the quality of what we say and/or post.
Remember guys, we aim to attract people of all nationalities and make this a bigger community.
So our site also needs to be presentable from it's design to it's content.

Of course we can fool around a bit from time to time, but like I said, it shouldn't be a habit.

Praising someone for his/her idea(s) or work(s) is NOT a bad thing, but we should control ourselves.
Going off topic isn't a thing we can prevent most of the time, especially when more off-topic information needs to be shared.
But here are some of the things we should refrain from posting.
- super short posts (ie. one words posts, posts with only smileys, etc)
- posts that states the obvious
- repetitive posts

I think what Sir Jay is trying to say is that we need to work as a team to bring this hobby to it's fullest.
Forget about the post counts. And let's start thinking about how our posts and ideas can help others.

For now, I believe that deleting posts is unfair and isn't a proper way to solve this problem.
It should come from ourselves.

We do not expect this problem to become worse.
Sir Jay and I have yet to discuss this, and believe me, none of us want to be strict.
But should this matter become worse, we shall decide on what proper action will be taken.

I hope that I haven't offended anyone with this.
I just want to be transparent because all of you are like my brothers.
It wouldn't look good to others if one of us 'goes off-coarse' right?
So let's keep this place tidy. =)

Thanks.

great thoughts josh..

what i was referring on the other thread was mainly in that thread alone.
it's the "Monthly Performance Ranking".

IMO, this thread should be locked from replies and make it a sticky..
save the greetings in the chatbox or another thread.
because once someone goes off topic, it will make it very long and so on..

with regards to being "off-topic", yes, sometimes we can't really avoid it..
i myself is guilty of it.. =)
let's try not to gear-off too much from the topic.. let's respect the author of the thread.
if we want to discuss something, start a new thread or enter the chatbox.

just my thoughts..

I wasn't referring to anyone in particular sir.
We are all doing this. And we should all work together to find an end to this problem.

I agree and points taken… very happy

I just hope it will not hinder the members to post stuff that maybe the concerns of others. I’m also guilty of such, and I know it’s also hard to clean the whole forums for unnecessary posts, but let’s also remember that there should be fun on everything right? wink

Keep up the good works guys!!

@all very simple..

post with sense if you dont have any constructive or helpful words to say then dont..
post your lols and smileys on the chatbox and ofcours comedy central.

to achieve high post count with nonsense posts is meaningless clown

this is exactly what we need to avoid in this forum. . . . . i haven't done any post like this before. . . this is the first time. . .
let's say i want to delete this post or to any post i did which i feel i'm getting out of topic, is there a chance i could delete it? . . . . i have seen in other forums, you have an option to delete. your posts. . .

my apologies mods. . . .

lets not make numbers of virtually useless posts just for the sake of increasing post count. beware that incentives for posting do not reward quantity at the expense of quality.

the only thing less attractive than an underactive forum is one that is absolutely buzzing-with nothingness.

i hope we made it clear to everyone clown

thanks for the reminder paul :drunken:
