PostSubject: TA05 counter steer project   Sat May 22, 2010 7:17 pm

Just about done with my steering mod. Now all I need to do is get the drive belts from Papi Ian, install the gears, and I'm set!

The gears I'll be using:

Center pulley for the rear: 26t (thanks to Sir Lance)
Center pulley for the front: 10t
Differential pulley for the rear: 30t
Differential pulley for the front: 42T/40T

... Other bits that await installation:
Threaded oil shocks
Graphite shock towers
And hopefully, a graphite chassis, just need to convice dad a lil' bit more!

Now the pictures...

... Oh, and I need to modify some universals so there is less play when on full lock... =/

Nice job Abdul.

But one thing I want to ask is, are you getting any Ackerman with that steering mod?
I've heard that the ball connector from the steering link to the ball connector of the knuckles MUST be parallel (when steered) to achieve zero ackerman.

Give me an update, I plan to do that same with my kit.
=)

Thanks Josh.

Ackerman? Pfft... Easy blum3

I need a longer turn buckle, and then I'll have absolutely ZERO ackerman, and two more longer tie rods, then I'll have crazIER steering angles.

Anyway, I can't post pictures of it as I haven't done the mod yet, but I was looking at this wreck in the scrap with dad the other day, and I managed to get a good glimpse of this tricked out Jeep.

Dad told me what he had done, it's called Pitman steering. It's simple, just use a turnbuckle that runs from knuckle to knuckle, this should eliminate ackerman, if not, reduce it.

P.S, there is a massive problem with my steering system right now, it helps to have the turn buckle at 90 degrees, this helps both, steering to the left, and right, once I get the graphite steering upgrades I will try to get 90 degrees.

Cheers very happy

What will you do with 90deg of steering? =P

I wanted to give the Pitman steering a try, but I can't find a long-enough turnbuckle.

Goodluck on the project

Really want to know?

Atsushi Kuroi FTW.

I haven't tried looking for a turnbuckle yet actually, but you don't NEED a turnbuckle, anything stiff from one knuckle to the other will do... And the Pitman bit isn't hard at all, considering all the other modifications you'll have to do that is...

CS your TA already! You're missing out on so much fun blum3

That's about 70-80degs of steering.
90degress is just ridiculous. =P

I think the turnbuckle is a must because you can't really find a shaft that exactly reaches both knuckles without having a toe-in/out.
Do I have a point?

Everyone here has been telling me to shift to CS.
But I just want to collect a few more trophies before making that move. =P
Plus I need better (more durable) electronics.

And then I need to officially beat Eathan.....hehe.
(I'm waiting for you Eathan)
=P

I would, but the belts are with you blum3
If you're ever coming to Mirdif, let me know, I'll take them from you. smile

@Josh, I know, I can't bother modifying universals =/

Oh, and maybe you can use the steering turnbuckle from a M05 because the servo is mounted in the rear... So it's long. MAYBE.

Better electronics? Novak isn't good enough? very happy

You do have a point about the turnbuckle... Hmm...

Dayam, JJ closes tomorrow... Must find bulkheads... =/

Speaking of universals.
They won't reach the 90degrees angle.

I have an idea about a replacement but i'm not too sure if it'll fit.
I'll let you know if I succeed.

About the electronics,
I'm not even using 40% of my motor's total power, how much less if I switch to CS.
So I will definitely be needing a higher turn BL motor.
A coreless or brushless servo is also a must. Regular servos will die under the stress of CS.

Gears are a bit hard to find for shaft drives.

But I've seen Active Hobby release CS gears for the TT01.
That might be compatible with the TB03....emphasis on the 'might'.

Actually, you can modify a TB03D, it just requires patience.

You need the TN racing 43/13 gears for Yokomo cars, and the 2.0x gears. Then you'll have to get them to fit the gear boxes.

If you do try to do it, keep saying this to yourself...

"It's been done before, I can do it too!".

@Josh, oh look, I'm breaking my promise very happy
