PostSubject: Project: Custom 3-Belt Drift Chassis   Thu Apr 07, 2011 12:44 pm

I had several ideas of how to convert my Sakura Zero to a front-mid mount motor and a 3-belt drive.
But this one looks promising:

Just a rough 3D I made..

This will make the adjustment of the front's IDR easier. In the OTA-R31, the rear's IDR varies more than the front's.
As the OD ratio becomes bigger, the Rear IDR becomes less putting more load to the motor. Although you can adjust the FDR by changing pinions and spurs, it's gonna cost a lot of money to collect them.

With this new design we can let the rear's IDR stay constant, keeping the FDR, and easily make the front drive slower by changing the pulleys.

Will need new belts for the middle and rear drives and hope they are available with minor tensioner adjustments. Looking at Fujin's or Xpress' rear belts for the middle and TA-05v2 or OTA-R31 middle belts for the rear. Need to take more measurements before I can finalize the motor mount.

Will need new upper decks as well. But that's not hard to do.

Just need to finalize the design and get a CNC Machine shop to make the parts. some testings and it's off to the track.

Tried emailing a manufacturer if they're interested but all I got as a reply was "Well noted with thanks". Sad.

Please do share you thoughts.

NB: will try to make a more clear representation.. very happy

The reason I ask for the software is because the file should be easily converted to G code for the CNC to read. Another option is to have it milled manually, Ive seen a few machine shops in sharjah which I think can do the job, also I have a lot of 6mm solid ali @ 5cm width you can use. lets make this work!

@strawb, not a problem.. thanks!

@reck, it's an autocad file. will easily be converted for CNC machining. belts will have to be experimental but I have some extra belts that I can test. And yeah, let's do this! very happy

which suspension arms and other bits are you going to use for that drifter?

if this pushes through, are you going to sell it as a package (with all other parts to make a proper kit)?

@bong, thanks for the upload! pesky office firewalls blocked all hosting sites..

got free time earlier in the office so was able to trace some parts from the PDF Manual.

@papi, The drifter will have stock Sakura Zero parts. The belts, main motor mount and center shafts are the only ones modified.

Will try to make more representations in 3D to make it look better while I search for a machine shop to do the milling. Already got some prospects. very happy
Drawing it in 3D also helps in taking measurements for the upper deck and getting how their shapes' gonna be. Dodging the belts of course. thumbs_up

Looking good, get this working on Sakura S too and youll have an awesome after Market kit! Plus a pretty good option for an entry level drifter.

And then Lastly you'll need to match the Sakura PINK anodising! laughing Your render looks too HB purple laughing

Thanks Paul! Will try to make it as close as possible.. giggle

No plans of infiltrating the market.. Just letting go of some suppressed creativity.. laughing

If it makes me money doing so, then it's a welcomed surprise.. thumbs_up

Update.. very happy

Some changes in the original design but nevertheless, the same concept.

Got the pieces waterjet cut so the edges are rough.. Counterbored holes were done manually.. neutral

Will clean up the parts before installing..

Next is to mount this little thingy on the actual chassis. Which is going to require a bit of accuracy.. very happy
