PostSubject: Quick Project - Already Wish I Hadn't Started   Fri May 06, 2011 6:18 pm

Hi,
After the last two projects - M07 and Scale Pajero I thought I would try something quick and simple - openning all the vents on a Fiat Abarth shell to detail them with fly screen mesh and some other fine metal mesh that I have.

Its a really fiddly job i.e. not that enjoyable. The vents are generally not in easy to access places where you could just cut them out with a hobby knife.

For the vents I have opened so far, I have used a very basic technique of drilling a 3mm hole in each corner and then using a hobby knife to score between the holes. The vents are much easier to remove if you then score diagonals between the corners.

So far I have opened all of the vents I intended too, still to do -

Tidy the edges with lots of sanding.
Find some thin wire to make frames for the mesh details
Make an 'Abarth' Mask to paint the logo on the mesh front grill, if I get this right it should look very good, its the main reason I chose this model for my first attempt at opening vents.
Come up with a paint scheme, paint it and run it - not at a Mayhem session obviously.

Will put some pics up when there is something to see.

Duane
