PostSubject: Personal Lap Timer   Wed Feb 08, 2012 9:19 am

Hi,
While I wait for some components to arrive for my traction control system I have been messing about with some other projects including a personal lap timing system.

I posted this on tamiyaclub, but if you guys have any suggestions, fire away -

Hi,
I am building a low cost personal lap timer for my own use however if there is enough interest I would look into outsourcing a short production run.

I have a prototype working at the moment and plan to complete the following features and will consider any additional features suggested here -

1) LCD Display of total laps, best lap and average lap
2) Stop/Start timing laps
3) Review recorded lap times
4) Clear recorded lap times for new session - maybe with the option to keep the summary data - total laps, best and average

Because I don't want to look at the timer while I am driving -

5) Buzzer to confirm lap captured
6) Double buzz if lap was faster than average
7) Triple buzz for new best lap

Anything else that might be useful ?

Duane B.

this sounds good Duane! But we need more number in our mini races and consistent attendance then we can use your lap timer.

So far we have 3 regular mini racers every friday morning. hope more will follow

My timing system uses a very simple encoder/decoder so it will only work for a single car, hence its a 'personal lap timer'. I could put the effort into a more complex encoding that would allow multiple cars however it would be easier if someone would buy Andy the new mini shell, then he might turn up with his timing system and another mini to race.

I am trying to package my timer so that I can use it to time an RC Car, but also so that I can strap it to the steering wheel of a kart for in lap timing at the kartdrome. I stopped kart racing because I had to wait to the end of a race to get the lap time and couldn't tell if my lines and times were improving during a session. Commercial systems cost a fortune but I can build one for less than an M03.

Duane.

I would love to get the mini racing going again, unfortunately there was too much input from one person, and a little effort from everyone else. I know it seems like a cop out, but it took too much of my time for little return....

I bought the timer, I bought (most of) the traction compound, the sprayer, the laptop, the ladder-bridge and a bunch of transponders, of which a few folks bought their own. I was always there to set up, operate the control system etc.....

I dont mind doing it, but when I stopped.....everyone else did.

It takes a group effort for that to gain traction.

I did appreciate all the help, and there were signs of everything moving forward.....just not enough.

I see the Emirates Radio Control Association seems to have **fizzz** p0p faaart...
