| i guess its the dip method.. water break-in.. sounds strange at first but somehow seem more reasonable compared to the rest tried it once before on a sportuned and run the crap outta it |

| OT I have a question about that. Doesn't the motor get short-circuited when dipping in water? =/ |

| j0sh, nope, they run perfectly well under water, only thing is the bushings will not last long, neither will the brushes against the comm. Bottom line is the voltage tension across the poles is negligible compared to across the comm/brush connection. This is of course true for LOW VOLTAGE and LOW AMPS. Anything over 3V will eventually start doing some damage. Best to do it for a few minutes, and then remove, replace the water and do it again, repeat a few times. The brushes will seat nicely. Remember to clean out with electrical spray afterwards, let dry and then put a drop of air tool oil on the bushes at either end.
I dunno about the WD40 idea, oils like that burn at high temps and I expect any burnt residue on the brushes will degrade performace over time.... |

| @ Josh, Andy is correct, I usually dip my sport tuned motor under water at low voltage for a few minutes 3x to clean or remove carbons and particles inside the motor, then let it dry overnight after a drop of oil in the bushing at both end. So far there's no problem with the motor and it runs well. |

| Can you do that to any brushed motor?
And, is it safe to touch the water with your finger/hand? |

| unless you touch it with your tongue lol its usually done only for those sealed motors like the silver can and sport tuned. i guess you started rc with brushless system already.. back when i started i think it wasnt invented yet.. or i just dont have the budget lol |

| I started with the RZ motor....or was it BZ....It's was the blue one. =P I never touched the silver can, and just sold it off as brand new.
How does 'dipping' increase the performance of the motor? |

| Jury is out on that one, as many people will advise it, and many oppose it. For the application you use, totally unnecessary. But serious racer in a spec class say it is worthwhile....
Experiments have shown that even brand new sport tuned 'black cans' have differing performance levels, almost one in every 10 has less performance than the rest, and the rest are not equal in revs, amp draw and power.....some people will buy 12, check to see which 4 give the best performance and toss the rest...!! SERIOUS racers.
What is known, is that the brushes do wear down more accurately, and seat better when 'dipped' and thus give slightly better performance...
Remember Mabuchi and Johnson motors are MASS produced and there are bound to be differences in production quality...but to people like us.....we dont notice it, racers do! |

| that blue one is the tamiya super stock motor TZ which has more torque compared to the rest of super stock series. a lot of budget drivers starts with this one for drifting.. like myself didnt apply the dip method on my existing silvercan motor but will surely do this for cleaning after a couple of sessions.. motor really eats up a lot of dust on parking lot race tracks.. |

| but how do we know that we are running it at three volts in the water, and how long do we keep it in the water? :/ |

| Use 2 AA batteries, that will give you 3V.
If you want, put a drop of dish liquid (fairy) in the glass, run it for about 4 mins in a glass...watch the whirlpool ! Remove it, and clean the water out, you should see small plack particles in the water....do it again 2 or three times....
When finshed, spray out with contact cleaner, and a drop of airtool oil on the bushings...
Dont blame me if you dont see any difference... |
