PostSubject: Gear Pitch? 64 or 48   Mon Jan 04, 2010 6:26 pm

My new tourer has arrived, and will make an appearance soon I hope.

It arrived with a 64 pitch 104 tooth spur gear. I knew I would need to buy some Pinon / spur gears and wondering if anyone else is running 64 pitch gears?

I'll either buy some 64 pitch pinions or just get a selection of 48 pitch pinion and replace the spur as well. I don't think it matters too much with what we are doing...... I know 64 pitch can be harder to set correctly. Any one else have a preference.

havent done too much research on this, but when i have come across this topic, the guys were generally in favour of the 48 pitch for the reason of being readily available and having loads of spur and pinion sizes available as compared to 64 pitch....

hope that helps

At the moment, I'm using a 64p set from the stock 48p.

One reason why I switched to 64p was because a tiny piece of pebble was caught in between the teeth of the 48p.

Once I switched, I noticed that there was less 'noise' emitting from the gears during runs.
Plus I haven't had a pebble problem so far.

So my choice would go in favor of the 64p.

i personally would like to move to 48-pitch after having so much pebble problem with tamiya 0.4 modules when drifting/touring at parking areas.

Quote:
RC drifting takes place in random places with varying conditions, using 48-pitch is a safer bet. While 64-pitch can be used in RC drifting, 64-pitch (and it’s finer teeth) are more suited to fully prepared surfaces, such as carpet or dust-free concrete.

@jay, 48P and tamiya's 0.6 module are almost the same.. our evos have a 0.4 module..

I've sticked with tamiya's 0.6 module for my tourer for the same reason that the surface that we're playing on is not really prepped for such occasions..

But if were given a chance to play on a prepped surface, 'would definitely go with 64P..
It gives smoother transfer compared to other other types..

just my thoughts..

Thanks for the links and comments......seems 48 is the way to go then due to the 'loose' surface we play on.

I'll update you on my kit in a 'your pictures' post soon. For now I will say it is not HB, not X-ray, not Tamiya, not schumacher, not AE.......... blum3
