I remember from my racing days (15+ yr ago) that there is a way to tweak the silver can for higher revs. It does not really keep with the intention of 'all racers being equal' so I won't go into any detail here, (and I have not tried it!) but you should not assume that this motor has not been tampered with! Remember that where there is a will there is a way! Maybe it's just a lucky find, but it could also have been tweaked. Also if it is brand new and the brushes have not been worn in, then it will naturally have higher rev's but lower torque.
I can't see the link, but maybe when I get home it will show.
I have also seen recently that certain ESC's have variable timing to make best use of the brush positions, but it does not increase the speed by as much as 24K. Bandit, would like to know how you get 21K out of a 15K motor....
Some day we will have to implement the 'handout' rule. With hobbies zone getting the STuned @65, it might be wise for all to get one, place them in a hat at the start of a raceday....and then random selecting......
Interesting..... I'm not sure how you can adjust the timing for a brushed motor using the ESC. For a brushless then yes it can be done electronically. I didn't realise that the silvercan is only 15k rpm. 24k does seem a lot in this case. Even if it has been tweaked for higher rpm, you don't get something for nothing and torque could be low, more heat generated, shorter motor life etc.
From what I read, the brushed motors can be affected by timing, but not hugely (some people consider 500rpm as a massive gain). It is a by-product of tech developments...a bit of an 'accident'...not sure how it works either...
The poor mabuchi is a little more speedy than the johnson, but not by a lot....
The result of 24K rpm will def have some side-effects....one of them being amp-draw....a TEU 101 may or may not handle massive amps....I think the STuned is on the limit of that amp draw...around 12A I think! (not 100% sure) the mabuchi/johnson pair ar doubtful togo over 8A
