Post2010 Mini SSS - Super Summer Series

A

ITS ALL OVER!!! We have endured the summer heat, and the best team has prevailed!!

A BIG CHEER TO TEAM JJ DUBSHOP!!!!

I have put all the driver points and team points down for you to reflect on. Bear in mind that some of the non-regular points are a bit skewed, there were some stand-in drivers during the season.

Congratulations to the top three drivers
1st - Eathan
2nd - Ian
3rd - Andy

And a really good effort to everyone.

I will make a few personal commendations to Lance for most improved driver (even without his 'special' motor laughing ) and to Jon & Bong for consistancy throughout the event. Both managed to get in the points a few times, and were unlucky not to qualify for some of the finals but both of them contributed points that boosted their teams chances of competing. Unfortunatelyfor some teams, work intefered with participation, and Dan, Duane and most notably Jay were not able to attend, but when they were there, were in the running. Also, Eric would have been a thorn in our sides had he not been transferred to Thailand, but I am pretty sure he is getting his RC fix there....

Now what are we going to do each week????

WEEK 19 (4 Byes) - POINTS STANDING
ISAAC HUNT RACING - 230
Andy - 98
Graham - 88
Jamie - 44

TEAM JJ DUBSHOP -246
Jon - 34

TEAM MAWA - 48
Bong - 34
Chris - 10
Lindsey - 4

TEAM DAG - 122
Dan - 20
Ahmed - 14
Greg - 88

TEAM UNKNOWN - 68
Jayson (keiichi) - 2
Lance - 60
Ryan (JRacing) - 6

TEAM JED-I - 90

I have a silvercan you can use. I always sound like I am disagreeing with the masses, but I do want this to be fair.

A silvercan is good for NOTHING except the Mini runs at Area 2. If we go touring, we have already said a 23T or a 13T BL in Al-Ain, and ST in the mini's.

For the SSS, I will find a motor you can use, rather than have everyone spend the money on what is essentially a glorified silvercan...

Am I being resonable?

Honestly speaking, I would rather people put money towards some more transpoders....infinitely more useful than a super-silvercan...

Duane if i remember rightly u were qwick at automodex, so cant see why u need to go any faster. Area 2 is small anyway, so not much power is needed.

Lets stick with the silver can, as everyone has one

Hi,
Ok, so no lightly tuned motors for now.

Regarding the transponders and buying our own, anything which gets us onto the track with less messing is good by me so how much is a transponder ? Are we planning a batch order ?

If so and the cost is not too crazy count me in.

Duane.

The transponders are US$35 each, or US$37 incl shipping. In drinking terms, 4 beers at the local watering hole, or maybe 6 at happy hour.

I am keen to get another order in, and will place one this evening if you are keen. I have tentative requests from Dan, Duane and Greg and I think Jamie will take one, based on 4 people, it is worth a shipment.

They will CONSIDERABLY reduce faffing about. As it is, last week only Eathan and Ian were swapping. I have my own one, Eric has one of his own and I have 5 kit ones so with 8 racers it was noce and simple. If we get 12 racers, it becomes a PAIN indeed. If 4 more people have their own, a lot of headache is averted.

I might just order another gate sensor while I am at it. I dont like the fact that people lose positions and points on not being counted....

Thanks to everyone who came down on Sat, we had a VERY exciting days racing, and a few new faces were in the running..

Duane was able to make it, and his driving skills were on show as he took 1st place in all the heats that he was in. Unfortunately for him and his team, car trouble (and the danger of getting beaten by his wife for coming home late) prevented him from taking part in the finals. It was also announced that Duane would be joining Eric and Jay as a team member, they will be a force to be reckoned with, for sure.

Eathan still had some steering problems but placed well in all of his heats, we eagerly await the arrival of his new parts....or maybe we don't... everyone is aware of his talent, and with a well running car, he will be a real danger man.
Dan was a welcome contestant and we hope to see more of him this season. He seemed a little rusty since Automodex, where he was a major contender, with Greg and Ahmed in their team, also very dangerous!! Racing Ryan arrived a little too late for me to add to the event. Once the first heats have been run, it is very difficult to add drivers, so please arrive on time guys, I dont like to see people excluded, this is a team event. Ryan will get the std 2 pts for taking part even though he was not in the heats, and if his entire team was there, they will get a bonus point.

I am trying to create an acocunt on an online storage portal where you can access the pts table and the results of all the races as the season goes by. The site is called 4store and as soon as I have the access, I will pass it on to you. Everyone will be able to DL all the PDF's and see the season points so far.

To all those that are busy assembling your mini's, keep going! It is a long season and there are going to be many opportunities for you to earn points for your team....on that note, all of you that are teamless......get it together!! You cannot participate without a team!

Lastly, I have 5 transponders on their way, hopefully they will be here before the next event. A big thank you to the guys who have bought their own, it is a great help if we have regular drivers with their own transponders, it means we dont have to swap all the time.
I also ordered an additional bridge sensor so we can cut down on the number of 'misses' on the track.

A prime example of this was in last weeks final....I was coasting along in 3rd position, just grateful to be in the race after a clash early on....to my surpirse, at the end of the race, I was in FIRST!!! After going through the results, it became clear that both Eric and Graham had not been counted at some point.....normally I would say TOUGH LUCK but under the circumstances, it was such a great challenging race from them, that I will step down and award the points where deserved. Eathan and Ian had some problems during the race, but also earn points for being in the final.

My performance was most likely down to rocking in at 9am in the morning. All the blame goes to my Russian mates who threw a party in the presidential suite @ the Metropolitan Hotel.

Im off the booze for the rest of the month so should be fine next week. And im hoping to try to make most weeks as of now.

hey abdull. . .

if you have a kit. . . . come to area 2 and test it out. . . . maybe you'll get to meet up with guys who don't have teams yet. . . there's a lot of new guys, who are interested in buying a mini. . . maybe they might see you as an asset for a team. . . . and get you as their team mate very happy

I have the new transpoders, hopefully we will see some of you down there today!!

I will regularly be updating the MAIN FORUM POST each week, for new info, rules etc, please go there each week and have a look see. I will also be changing the points standing whenever I get a chance. The teams points are up there now for the last 2 weeks, you can find them next to the team names.

WELL WELL WELL, some interesting things happened at the weekly SSS...

Firstly, I had to exclude 2 racers, simply because the registration was FULL at 17h30 and there were one or two people that arrived a little late, and I had no choice but to exclude them....rules are rules I am afraid....BUT, rules are meant to be broken, right?!! So, as of this week, we will be extending the maximum number of entrants to 15! This means that we will be able to have 3 heats of 5 racers, and the normal 5 racers in the final. So, make sure you get there on time, and I will make sure to put the registration up before Thursday evenings..

The other thing that was pleasing yesterday, was the CLOSENESS of the racing. Apart from a few mis-counts, ALL the heats were close, and particular mention must be made of the FINAL. We had 5 racers in the finals, JAMIE, IAN, EATHAN, GRAHAM and DAN. Over the 5 minute race, the order was as above, BUT all the racers were very close to finishing on the SAME LAP. The two leaders, only JUST managed to lap the last two, on the last lap.

The gap between 1st and Second was 0.04s, 3rd was 4s behind and 3rd and 4th were only the length of the course behind the leader. clapping awesome racing from EVERYONE.
I will also mention that there has been a very noticeable difference in the pace from the newer driver, and I will make special mention of Lance & Bong who have REALLY upped their game in the class. Also, Ryan, if it wasnt for that pesky bridge he kept crashing into, would be a majorly improved racer.
To all the others, great racing! There were two Jasons there yesterday, I hope you guys are registered at the site, and make sure you are in a team!

I spoke to the local guys who were there, and there is no track at Rashidiya, but they were also investigating using a hall the same way we were looking to do at Safa Park Hall, so it seems we will be staying where we are.....

I will adjust the scores on the main post for this forum to reflect yeasterdays racing and attendance....

Lastly, ....PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE if somebody still has one of the transponders, let me know, I am missing one. And I would appreciate it if you would LOOK AFTER these things. Yesterday one fell out of a car, and was located by a racer afterwards....remember these things cost money and it just takes a little bit of effort to look after them.

Thanks.

Yesterdays racing was a lot of fun, was surprised how close it was at times.

I spoke to the local guy as well. I think what he was offering to do was to rent the hall on a weekly basis with a temporary track that could be put up each week. Think he was willing to fit the bill for the temporary track and also the rent of the first few weeks to see how it goes.

do you think this could become a temporary solution for the summmer?

The problem with the indoor thing, in my experience, is as follows:

1: Cost - He was talking AED150 per hour. The SAFA Park place was AED100
2: Surface - the halls are a rubbery compound that offers NO traction, good for drifting though.
3: Availability - The SAFA Park place was booked solid for three months with league volleyball and football.

Cost is not a problem if we share the load, but at a minimum of 2 hrs required, that's AED200 per saturday. Divide it by 20 and its AED10 each. All adds up

Surface is a problem, we would need to get carpet, and a roller to store it on. And who will set it up and pack it away? I have enough problem getting plates taped down....

Availability is ok if we book 3 months up front, but can we and will we?

It was really fun racing yesterday.

The final race was awesome! Only 0.04s difference! Coolness!

With the indoor "renting" thing, I think it's better we stay at Area2.
It's free (including the parking fee) and it's not much of a hassle coming there for most of us especially the ones not having their own transportation.

But as always, what ever the consensus will be, I'm with it.. thumbs_up
